My son was not able to pick me up after work.

I would have missed his earlier text had I not realized that I left my phone on the desk at my job and had to run back to get it. If I missed the bus, I had an hour before the next.

Under normal circumstances, it would not have been a big deal. Tonight was not normal. I had completed my Christmas shopping and was weighed down with bags that were awkward to travel with.

Panicked, I knew I had to run back, get my phone and make it to the bus on time. I corralled my bags and tried to stumble back into the mall.

While struggling to reach the handle to pull it open, I could see 2 people on the other side of the glass door, just over an arm's length away.

Help, I wanted to cry.

Can you not see me struggling?

As a people pleaser, I am usually ready to lend a hand when I can. While they were not obligated to help me, it was a helping hand I could have used at that moment.

I managed to get the door open, race back to the store, retrieve my phone and made it to the bus with 30 seconds to spare.
