Humans Need To Feel Connected
How we define family matters to our well being
You can choose your friends, but you can’t choose your family. While from a biological standpoint that may be true, I have come to value the essence of what it takes to define a family.
Humans need connections.
Exhausted and coated in a fine film of sweat, I flopped back unto the hospital bed. I watch half dazed as the nurse cleaned, weighed, and measure my firstborn child. Before swaddling him, they rested his tiny body on my chest. My heart still thumping madly, my little newborn was introduced to the warmth, smell, and heartbeat of his mother.
I stared at this tiny human. Awed at the fact he had been in me, growing and evolving into a living baby. His skin was so wrinkled and pale, with fingers and toes curled tightly inward, content to snuggle in my warmth.
Love, a love that I could not define, grew fiercely from deep within.
This is my child.
We are forever united.
We are family.
It is a connection that is continually growing and a bond I have with all my children. They are mine. They are my babies. They will…
