How Having An ABI Helped Me Review My Time

Time is a fickle mistress.

It is the one product that is constant. Unfortunately, it is also the one product that is often taken for granted.

  • It is regulated in 24-hour increments and distributed evenly to all. No favourites. No do-over.
  • It is the one thing that we either don’t have enough of or don’t know what to do with.
  • It is either running out or crawling along.
  • It is either flying or not coming fast enough.

Whatever side of the equation you are on, time will always be a commodity that must be dealt with.

In my younger years, time meant a routine life. I got up, went to school, got home, sleep, rinse and repeat. Days were carefree and spent however I wanted. Adult responsibilities were a mystery that did not need solving until I did my official walk out of the ivory tower and into the world awaiting, résumé in hand.

The preciousness of time really starts to dig in as life becomes compartmentalized. A certain number of hours budgeted for work, some for cooking, cleaning, eating, laundry, sleeping…
