Life is made up of choices. Each and every day, I open my eyes to an opportunity to map out my day. Being grateful that I even woke up is step one.

The longer I live, the more unhappy people seem to be. Maybe, I am just around too many complainers, but I am struck by how nothing ever seems good enough. From the coffee flavour of the day to long wait in lines, traffic, co-workers, bosses, lunch menu, the temperature of water, colour, size, choice in stores, and every little niggling thing in between, seems to be fodder for complaints.

Some days my own patience is in short supply. We all have those days when the stress of life takes a toll on our best-laid intentions. An occasional good vent is usually all it takes to release the pressure valve. But after that vent, staying in that negative mode is a mystery to me.

So many people have been denied the gift of life today or had their lives drastically changed by circumstances beyond their control. From disease, terminal illnesses to random acts of violence, the unpredictability of daily life are the one reliable predictability we have today.
