How to break the fear cycle holding you back
“Regrets, I’ve had a few.
But then again, too few to mention”
crooned Frank Sinatra back in 1969 to his hit My Way. Very few of us has gone through life without some regrets along the way. I think back to all the fear I let control my decisions and kept me complacent in life. I let those past failures define me and kept my focus on what was wrong and why I did not deserve to have more and build a better life. I was living to the standard that I valued myself and believe me, that was a low standard.
Here are a few key thoughts that I had to reevaluate if I wanted to breat the negative cycle.
“That is just how I am.” I found this belief at the root of much of my victim thinking. After all, I can blame my character/personality/traits as the reason that I am who I am. I am an introvert, so do not blame me if I do not like to be around people. I became fixed that this IS my identity and therefore had to structure my life to fit who I believed I was.
“I am not good at this.” This was just an excuse that I turned to so I did not have to try and face failure. It gave me a reason to only stick with what I was good at and dream only about what I wanted. I would never get to the standard of others, so why try and be…
