The questions you should be asking yourself

I took my son for a hair cut the other day. While in the chair, the stylist was trying to make conversation with him. He is not a chatty person but he found it difficult to answer a simple question like, “What do you enjoy?” She had given him several options such as sports, video games and other than TV, the rest of the choices were no. When we got home he said to me, “Mom, I am boring.” I replied, “No, you are just not motivated.”

With the rise of social media and the availability of smart devices and wifi, this current generation is connected in ways that are foreign to an older generation. Not only do they know what is going on with their friends but they no longer have to wait for the next issue of Teen Beat magazine to hit the shelves to find out what is going on with their favourite celebrities. Hours go by while they gorge on a steady diet of the internet highway. Without much competition for their attention, the cyber world becomes more of a permanent residence.

In contrast, the older generation was all about connection. They value the coffee meet up and most spent their lives on a few chosen life paths. Growing up, my mom and dad had the same job for 40+ years. Life on a small island was simple and once you got a good job, you kept it. Women were…
